This course assists in exploring the relationship between people and their environment, risk management choices, and the resulting associations that affect an individual's health and physical well-being, as well as the health and physical well-being of their communities and vulnerable populations. Environmental public health is a professional and interdisciplinary field that highlights the practice and science of preventing illness and injury from exposure to hazards present in the environment. The course is divided into 3 parts. The first one is the Individual Assignments. It is expected that the students will come to class with preparation, and questions and comments are encouraged on the subject matter. The sessions will include two questions related to the readings with the help of the Canvas quiz function (50 pts) and each will have one point. Progress Assessment Test # 1 will be available on Friday, April 27 (11:30 am) and will close on Sunday, April 29 (11:59 pm). The Progress Assessment Test 2 will be available on Friday, June 1st at 11:30 am and will close on Sunday, June 3rd at 11:59 pm. The third part of this assessment is a group project or final examination. At the beginning of the second week of the course, the class will be divided into groups to analyze an environmental health problem that is controversial. Apart from learning about an environmental health issue, the purpose of the group project is to gather experience while working together as a part of a team effectively.
Although group work can be frustrating, it is increasingly important for both private and public organizations that their employees maintain group communication and team-building skills. Individual contributions to group discussions (10 points), individual outlines (15 points), individual papers (20 points), and group presentations (30 points) comprise the grading for this group project.
The fourth part of this assignment is the extra credit points. Students will have the opportunity to earn extra credit points. After the first lecture, the course title slides shown before each lecture session will depict a scene relevant to the lecture. To receive extra points (10 max), the student needs to use Poll Everywhere to correctly identify the title slide for each class lesson. One point will be awarded for correctly identifying 60% (or 18 sessions) of the 30 possible title slides, and 10 points for correctly identifying all 30 title slide pictures.
