Essay On Backup Issues And Their Implications

Information is the new data oil of the global world which can enhance connectivity and also raise the question of security. In addition, information storage systems might fail, inventories can malfunction and become destroyed, and computers and electronic devices can be stolen or damaged, leading to irreparable data loss (Whittman & Mattord, 2021). Therefore, data storage is vital for everyone who uses a computer or electronic device. Recently many data breach issues were reported in the US which hampers the revenue and the image position of the US in the global market. One such instance analyzed in this document is the incidence of Chicago Public School which faced the data breach of around 500,000 students along with the data of the 56,000 employees (Issa & FitzPatrick, 2022).

 

 

Old media in a database can easily get corrupted due to bad handling  management of data. Internet connectivity with a strong firewall is a prerequisite nature of backup data. The critical factor from the developing stand regarding the backup strategies is the expensive cost of the backup machines and applications, the variety of backup methods present over different platforms, backup location and scalability along with the flexibility pose a problem in backup applications. Protection against ransomware is one of the major issues which is being faced by every enterprise established on a global platform with interconnective chains. In Chicago Public School, the school faced a ransomware attack from a third-party platform supplier (Leyden, 2022). Cyber hackers hacked into the school server access through a loophole in the network through which they gain access to a database containing the records of students containing their details along with assessment data and teachers’ evaluation marks. The security system of the application was not strong enough and it compromised the records of the staff members of the school. As per the district officials, no report for the misuse of that breached data was reported anywhere in the country (Leyden, 2022).

 

 

Proper usage of the encrypted data along with the use of strong encryption keys is one of the solutions for the backup data breach issues. The enterprise should implement a ransomware blocker in their network for enhancing their security level across the net. Leveraging off-site cloud storage will provide a holistic approach to security issues. Use of external hardware which holds high-capacity storage devices are essential for the backup process of many business enterprises (Whitman & Mattord, 2021).

 

 

Backing up of data over a remote server or location predominantly known as cloud backup services is known by the technical term as off-site storage backup methods. Its advantages are that it is not a tedious process provided multiple backup methods and provide cutting-edge security. Vulnerability to data corruption and slow data retrieval is the major drawbacks it faces on the network.
