It is stated that the nurse leaders are responsible for changing the environment and improving the patient safety. A proper leadership helps in determining the organisational drawback and understanding the priorities which needs to be addressed by the nurse. Medication error is one of the most common issues which is present within the healthcare organisation which impacts the patient’s safety and rights. The nurse must advocate on the behalf of the patient in order to ensure patient safety and connecting the patient with various patient resources. The nurse must try to implement proper person-centred care by considering the patient wish and prevent the chance of effecting the patient safety. Similarly, the nurse in this case must aim to provide proper care by advocating to implement clinical decision support system within the organisation which will address the patient safety issue and lower the prevalence of medication error (Mutair et al., 2021). During my practice, I have provided training and education to the staff nurses related to the importance of double checking of medication. I have provided education to the patient along with his family. I have aimed at communicating with the patient family and explained the disease progression, complications and medications. I have also involved the patient in various activities which helped in improving the patient’s trust. I have followed transformational leadership style which helped me in improving the productivity of the nurses by providing them training and education and maintaining a collaborative practice by considering the patient wish. The collaborative practice helped in changing the environment of the hospital and preventing the chance of error (Sfantou et al., 2017).
