Question:

Paper (part one): 200 words (or 3 double-spaced paragraphs)

Bennis (2009) notes that the first basic ingredient of leadership is a guiding vision. The leader has a clear idea of what he or she wants to do – professionally and personally – and the strength to persist in the face of setbacks, even failure. Unless you know where you’re going, and why, you cannot possibly get there (pp. 33 – 34). The overall objective of this class is to develop leadership skills by engaging and participating in activities, assessments and projects that provide the opportunity to practice these skills.

Due Sunday (midnight) Week 2 - you will develop a Personal Leadership Development Plan for this class that serves as a guideline for your leadership development throughout the duration of this course.

Part one – Personal Development plan (paper) should include the elements listed below.

Your Personal Development Plan should include the following elements:

Describe: Describe the leadership behavior you want to work on and why.

For example: I want to improve the way I communicate my vision/opinion because I want to feel heard by my team and I want to demonstrate a more active contribution to my team at work.

Assess: What specific skill do you need or want to work on to be able to demonstrate this leadership behavior?

For example: I need to improve my oral presentation skills or I need to learn how to be more assertive.

Apply: What will you commit to do to develop this skill, both inside and outside the class?

For example: I will take the lead in the team project, or I will present the team project or I will take every opportunity to speak out in class or in my team meetings.

Analysis: What are your goals? What will success look like?

For example: Be the co-presenter of my team project, or speak up at least twice in every meeting I attend. Create a visual aid using Pinterest or other instructor approved digital medium that is clear and easy to follow. Utilize the “how to” create a Pinterest document located in the Week Two Documents and Resources folder.

Evaluate: On a scale of 1-10 where are you now with regard to the leadership skill you want to develop?

Answer:

Describe

I am much interested to grow my skills at work and for this reason, I want to focus more on improving my personal skills. One of my main weaknesses is lack of leadership ability and so, I want to enhance my leadership skill because it can help me to foster a positive workplace culture at organizations and motivate other colleagues or peers (Rudolph, Rauvola & Zacher, 2018).

Assess

For improving my leadership skill, I want to improve my strategic thinking skill because as a leader I will be able to take creative approaches to problem-solving and make effective decisions in complex situations.

Apply

In order to improve strategic thinking skill, I will make routine exercise for synthesizing and exploring internal trend in all of my day-to-day works. I will also participate in debates where I will oppose others’ arguments and opinions. Moreover, it is also necessary to keep myself updated with latest trends and news.

Analysis

I shall be a leader of my project team and as a leader, I will arrange several meeting with my colleagues and peers to discuss about creative and strategic approaches to respond to any kind of organizational changes.

Evaluate

I will rank myself 6 out of 10 because my strategic thinking skills is not so good and I think it is the most important skill needed for a better performance in professional life. Apart from this, this skill is also important for making important decisions and identifying a better way to solve workplace conflicts (Cottrell, 2017).
