The course examines the complex experiences of African Americans originating from slavery to 1877. The topics involve the middle passage, West African roots, American slavery, as well as resistance, followed by the development of racism, Reconstruction, and the Civil War. This course will be completely online and it will be delivered via distance learning. Thus it will enable the students to complete the academic work flexibly. access to an online learning management system and course materials will be made available to each student. In Week 1, the topic will be Introductions, Middle Passage, Atlantic Slave Trade, and Olaudah Equiano. The assignment due will be Forum 1. In Week 2, the topics will be Indentured Servitude vs. Slavery, Plantation Slavery, and The Great Awakening, and this will be Forum 2. This course includes three assignments that are reading, forum, and written HIST221 task answers assignments. Reading Assignments: This course depends on the assigned supplemental readings, text, and lectures. Links to these readings are present in the weekly lesson section of the unit course.
Throughout the course, the students will be able to answer questions in the forums and be able to respond to the postings of their classmates, along with answering the follow-up questions that the lecturer will post in the forums. Instructions for the forum assignments are present in the classroom in the forum area.
Written Assignments: During the course, the students will write 2 short papers that are at least three pages long together with a cover page as well as a bibliography page. An in-depth explanation about the exact expectations is found in the Assignment area of the class.
The weightage of this course is high. The weekly forum starting from week 1 to 8 will have 51 points. The written assignments 1 and 2 will have 10 points each. The written assignment 1 and 2 follow-up questions will have 2 points each. The final exam will have 25 marks, constituting a total of 100 marks.
