For decades, personal philosophy has gained increased attention for guiding life and actions. The contemporary literature suggested that personal philosophy is defined as a set of guiding principles which enable individuals to alter the actions and change the mindset to life a purposeful life (Lenz 2017). As individuals conceptualize philosophy in various ways that give meaning to their life, personal philosophy often differs in their context, values and individual ideology. The paper aims to focus on personal philosophy, skills required for developing personal philosophy and personal philosophy from a first-person point of view.
Hales (2021) The original meaning of philosophy is wisdom which came from the Greek language that indicates “philo” means love and sophos means wisdom. The philosophy of any individual, subject or action is solely developed for understanding how and why certain things are required to be done in order to live a purposeful life (Sellars 2018). An example of philosophy is Buddhism (uncountable, originally) which represents the love of wisdom and it is an academic discipline that seeks truth through reasoning rather than empiricism. Philosophy not only improves critical thinking but also assists us to alter our beliefs and stimulate thinking by questioning significant events human encounters (Sherman et al. 2021). Ancient Greece was the birthplace of philosophy where it was developed by Socrates, Aristotle and Plato. Even though it was created in ancient Greece, the importance of developing personal philosophy gained worldwide fame. The underlying reason is that it provides a sense of personal growth, a lifelong process that is uniquely valued by every individual (Grimm and Cohoe 2021). Hence, personal philosophy is often developed by a combination of beliefs, values , perception, past experiences. It is clear beyond doubt that philosophies motivated by a keen interest in the phenomenon and concept of life. Other parts of the world such as China and India also developed various philosophical ideology that enable individuals to gain insight broad landscape that drive flow of life such as different tradition, past experiences and religion (Kishik 2020). The common areas where philosophy is applied include leadership in business, health care while caring for the patients and teaching to create nurturing environment and individual context to improve quality of life (Von Schlegel 2020).
Each person’s individual perspective and philosophy is unique to the value, culture, religion and ethnicity. The unique personal philosophy enables each individual to shape the abstract perspective to a structured one to lead life by following ethics, goal and perception. In this case, in order to develop individual philosophy or personal philosophy, one must have crucial skills such as verbal and written communication skills, analytic and disciplined thinking, problem solving ability from the point of limited bias and ability to question events (LeMahieu and Cowley 2018). Therefore, one must focus on identifying the goal of life, learning from success and failure, keeping a journal for tracking progress and observing and listening the perception of others and their inspiration, continuous motivation for enhancing day to day life (Von Schlegel 2020). Identifying self-quality and strength and weakness that requires training, knowledge and resources. Hence, individuals must develop these skills and aligned their actions according to it in order to achieve purposeful life.
As human beings, I developed my personal philosophy in the early years of my life. Encountering various lives isn't that increased inside of living a life full of appreciation, my analytic thinking and continuous learning process enable me to develop a personal philosophy for living life with courage, grace and appreciation. Hence, I have three personal philosophies such as “ living life full of happiness and hope “, “Personal integrity should guide every action “ and “ pursuing one's own dreams regardless of the opinions of others”. It is common instances where individuals were subjected to various challenges that questioned their integrity and their ability to think with clarity and think in the right direction (Von Schlegel 2020).. Such issues also reduce resilience and create a sense of unworthiness and confusion while creating ethical dilemmas for taking action following moral or best interest. In this case, hope is what provides a positive insight as it provides me with positive insight to keep taking actions despite challenges encountered in the place (Sherman et al. 2021). Similarly, integrity enables us to take actions by aligning best interests as well as moral principles. Being a good person means being a considerate person who thinks about the consequences of their decisions and the effects of their actions on others. The combination of integrity and hope support individuals to drive by motivation, compassionate and self-respect. Hence, personal philosophy enhances the ability to take right action at the right time. Personal philosophy enables me to take actions towards goals and dreams to make life full of happiness, blessing and purposefulness (Kishik 2020). The major of such philosophy is that it enables me to develop resilience even in adverse situations and guides me to take right actions towards the dreams I have created for myself. Similarly, the impact of personal philosophy on my life is that it enables me to develop personal skills and maintain humanity and integrity while supporting others in achieving their personal purpose. People should be compassionate towards others and live life to the fullest and inclusion of personal integrity in philosophy support individuals to be compassionate towards self and others.
