To begin with the reflection writing, I would like to write about my own experiences as a group member for this research work. The group has been supportive and cooperative during the whole research work. There were conflicts like any other group, but in the meantime, we understood the value of teamwork and the art of listening and expressing ourselves simultaneously. As our topic was related to family issues faced by patients and how they confronted the doctors, it involved a lot of communication between the team members. Certain conflicts arose in finalizing the methods that would be used to solve the question.
Firstly, there was a need for data collection, for which our team used the online survey portal from the clinical staff and data from allied health groups. For doing this, we divided the group into two, which helped us to resolve any conflicts. By doing this method, a total of 534 responses were found. After a long discussion, our group decided to use qualitative and quantitate methods for data analysis. For the quantitative part, online surveys and free text messages were used in the case of qualitative data.
Though as per my understanding, a different method of qualitative data extraction could have been used. For example, face-to-face interviews could have been used to generate raw data. This would have helped us to understand the patent in a much better and more personal way. Interviews can be further used as recorded records as well. Many researchers have claimed the use of interviews to be better than any other phonic or text message style of information gathering (Manullang, Sianipar, & Sinurat, 2022). apart from this, the other problem I could understand in the group was the lack of meetings. The team could not meet regularly to discuss the relevant points, which resulted in missing out on some points. For any group project to flourish, the group needs to be physically present and try to rectify each other (Wilkins-Yel, Hyman, & Zounlome, 2019).
Group projects help people come out of their comfort zones, be expressive and form a simple work out of complex studies. It helps knowledge from different sections and experiences come together and create something unique (Chang, & Brickman, 2018). My experience with this group and on this project was very similar. I could relate to the topic and everyone else in the process. This group project gave me enough courage to be outspoken and let people know about my viewpoints on the topic. Apart from that, it was also a long learning process. During the project, we interacted with doctors and other health professionals, who helped us by providing their immense knowledge about patients and their behavioural studies. I understood the reason behind this research topic and how crucial it may sometimes become for doctors to handle the patient without disturbing any of the ethical values.
From the group project, I understood how doctors and registered nurses must provide mental support to people and help them survive many times. The patient tries to give up on their health, as they are so mentally traumatized in that situation. The health-supported have to go beyond their limits and help the patient. This project has created a deep impact on my ideologies about health workers.
I felt that this project was important for me to understand the real face of a doctor-patient relationship and how come this is a dual activity and requires support from both sides. From the project of Rudd et al. ( 2021), some of the main findings that we could understand were the type of emotional support needed by the patient, especially women who have been victims of domestic violence for a very long time; our group mainly emphasized that more o training is needed for the healthcare workers, which will help them analyze and bring solutions to such cases more easily.
In my opinion, more training and detailed discussion on family management and planning are neds. As per my idea, the government should make plans and strict laws for family relations. Most of the cases I went through during this project either included violence, abusive language, or depressed people in the family.
My learning from these projects is mainly related to self-growth and the ability to understand better. Previous, I was less spoken and did not try to solve matters in depth. Since the project, I have developed the idea of reading and researching. My group members helped me to understand the correct research method. They also helped me through websites and journals, for example, google scholar, from which accurate data can be extracted. Overall, I would like to conclude this project as a great learning experience and a lifetime achievement
