Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) In Nursing


The system development life cycle is a unidirectional cycle based on planning, analysing, designing, developing, testing, and deploying an informatics system that can collect information and segregate it within different departments (Olorunshola, & Ogwueleka, 2022). The SDLC method aims to enhance the quality of work and make information management more effortless. In order to combat the new documentation, a lead nurse or nurse manager system is required. Below are the roles and responsibilities of the lead nurses in every step of the implementation of SDLC.
 

Planning And Requirements


Under the planning and requirement section, the lead nurse needs to shortlist the requirements for every patient and track down the feedback forms. The major roles of the lead nurse will include reviewing the documents and ensuring with the software team that the data is being recorded in the portal. The lead nurse is also responsible for making a financial plan and the appropriate options available to the internal staff and the patient. Apart from documentation, the lead nurse also has to deploy, test, and maintain the software development for the feasibility of the patients (Olorunshola, & Ogwueleka, 2022).


Designing Of The System


Designing the system plays a vital role, as it makes the overall appearance of the portal (Risling, & Risling, 2020). The lead nurse needs to make sure that the software is easy to reach and understand by every internal and external individual. While designing the software, the lead nurses can use the data obtained from the previous step, which involves financial reports, internal documents, and health reports of the patients. While designing the system software, the lead nurses must also explain the changes to the other trainee nurses. Apart from this, the lead nurse must ensure that data segregation is done properly so that every doctor, nurse or another patient can easily find their respective documents. 
 

Implementation


As the organization has to shift from the previously used process to a new documentation system, the nurses need to ensure the implementation process. During the implementation, the lead nurse will have to take care of the old documents and ensure their input into the new system. Data segregation will be required in this process, requiring a team of qualified nurses to work together. Such group activities also need to be monitored by the lead nurse. In this scenario, the lead nurse's major duty will be to help the other trainer nurses to accommodate the new documentation system.


Post-Implementation Support


After the implementation of SDLC, the lead nurse is required to keep a check on the working of the software and keep a record of the problem betterments needs in the system. The lead nurse needs to keep a daily check on the working of the system, installation process, system updates, and loopholes as well. In many cases, there are chances of information leakage in such portals, and the lead nurse needs to ensure that no such mismanagement occurs. A quality team apart from the lead nurse can be employed to make the process smooth. The quality team will supervise the whole process, and any discrepancy can be identified early (Kaiser & Westers, 2018).
